Connor started paddling in 2012 as a way to spend time outdoors with his dad, and he immediately became hooked. Already an avid surfer, Connor loved the competitive aspect of SUP racing and was eager to go all in. Fast forward a year later, and Connor is racing and surfing at an elite level.
Connor works at Blackcreek Outfitters as an ACA certified SUP and surf instructor. He enjoys sharing his passion with newcomers on the lake located right next to the shop. When he is not working, teaching or traveling to compete, you will find Connor chasing waves in and around Northern Florida. His passion for paddling is certainly infectious.
When and where did you start SUP?
I first got on a board on a full moon paddle on Halloween night, and everyone was dressed up in costumes. It was crazy, and we were paddling downtown in one of Americas oldest cities.
Which sports did you practice before? and now?
I was always an active person participating in football, weight lifting, lacrosse, and Ice hockey (surprising for Florida) in high school, which has been excellent cross training for paddling.
How have the sports you did before helped with SUP?
Cross training with these sports have improved my balance, strength, and endurance on the water and made my transition to paddling seamless.
What attracts you to SUP?
I am drawn to SUP because I love the balancing aspect even when I’m on a wave or not. The constant challenge of pushing my skills as a waterman is fun.
SUP race, SUP surf or something else?
SUP Surfing is my passion, but I’m getting even more stoked on SUP racing and pushing my skills and training.
SUP is booming, do you think this is a fad or a change in attitudes over the long term?
I think right now it may seem like a fad for some, but it is also changing in a positive way. I believe it will be around for the long term because it is a super fun sport to do.
Do you participate in competitions?
Yes, I love of competing and pushing it to the highest level of what I can do!
