2017 draws to its close in a very positive way for Techno 293 OD, and its new sister class, Techno PLUS, which had an unbelievably high entry at its inaugural stand-alone World Championships and was officially recognized.
internationally by World Sailing. Two key elements that give Techno 293 OD a highly promising future. The Techno PLUS World Championships set the tempo with a magnificent total of 167 competitors coming from 31 different countries. It was the very first time that the Techno class had organized a World Championship specifically for the Techno Plus category, where competitors get to race on Techno 293 rigs, for 4 different titles.
(Under 19 boys/girls, and Open men/women). In 2016, this development class ran its first World Championship at Torbole in Italy, as part of the Techno 293 OD World Championships event. The Techno PLUS contest attracted a respectable entry of 60 over 17s. In 2017, it’s more than twice as many entrants as 2016! This shows how strong the demand is at sailing club level to enable young racers to continue competing on Techno 293s after they’ve reached the age of 17.
The rapidly approaching Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in October 2018 in Buenos Aires, where the Techno Plus is equipment selected for the windsurfing event, has given a further boost to the development of the Class. Following on from the T+ World.
Championships, the YOG World Qualifier, November 2017 also featured: the South American Championships, hosted at the YOG venue, and an African Championships, itself a YOG qualification event. Numerous other qualifying events will be taking place during 2018. The YOG have become a major competition target for various countries, lending extensive worldwide visibility to the promotion of Techno PLUS. For all information about the YOG check out event website.

Techno PLUS officially recognized by national and international organisations.
The excellent attendance at the Techno PLUS World Championships has not escaped the notice of many national federations, and of World Sailing, which in November gave the Techno PLUS class its official blessing at its annual international conference. This long-awaited world level recognition is sure to give a huge boost to Techno 293 PLUS from 2018 onwards.
The other important decision: the highly influential French Sailing Federation’s recognition of separate titles for boys and girls. A decision that is yet more proof of the vitality and development potential for Techno 293 OD, which itself became a teenager this year, celebrating its 13th birthday.
